Will Talking to Your Baby Increase His Intelligence

Pregnant moms quite often have a question will talking to your baby increase his intelligence? In our culture the majority of the opinion is that parenthood starts after birth. In fact some believe that the baby isnt a baby until after he is born so it isnt surprising that others believe that parenting isn’t possible until after the baby is born.

This view has been fostered over the years by scientists, who don’t define the baby as human until after they are born since they are believed to be unable to see, hear or experience pain or emotion.

However, more recent research has shown that children are able to hear their mothers voices and are calmed by the same after they are born. Then, to reset the clock on parenting you shouldn’t miss the early period from conception to birth. This early period of parenting is a wonderful time to form an early bond and foster a relationship with mom and dad that will be reassuring to your baby once he is thrust into the world.

Another essential piece to early parenting is helping the child to construct a physical environment (his body) that will determine the childs equipment for living which includes his limitations and advantages. Parents who wait until after the baby is born have started too late. By now all of the basic equipment has been finalized and although there is some plasticity about the brain and development it wont negate poor nutrition or poor development.

Also, because of the increasing amount of chemicals, viruses and bacteria that can assault the baby before hes born the womb is no longer the safe place it once was. A mother may also innocently invite birth defects through poor nutrition or lack of necessary vitamins and minerals. For instance, folic acid is necessary for the appropriate development of the neural tube or the neurological system.

One of the biggest surprises to scientists has been the emotional responses that children express in the uterus that are viewed on ultrasound. Children move in response to the mothers cough, laughter and voice. Doctors have seen protest movements to uncomfortable movements. Interestingly ultrasounds have also observed the inner world of twin social behavior in the uterus that includes kissing, hitting, kicking or playing together. Life in the uterus bears very little resemblance to the lazy world that was previously thought.

But will talking to your baby increase his intelligence? The most recent research shows that babies who are exposed to specific music or auditory stimulation will show recognition when they are born. Does this recognition lead to enjoyment of the same? Scientists arent really sure that recognition of a musical piece will lead to further exploration of the experience.

But what has been proven is that parents who participate in early parenting while the baby is still in the uterus develop stronger bonds with their children that last a life time. Is this because the parents who speak with their bab’ys while they are in the uterus also spend more time after the baby is born? This is difficult to determine.

Studies done in Venezuela have also shown that children who were stimulated before they were born also had earlier development of speech, fin and gross motor development and better cognitive processing. These gifts of early parenting will talking to your baby increase his intelligence or do these parents also spend more time after the baby is born on the same type of activities?
