It is the middle of summer and this might leave some avid coffee drinkers in a bind! In the early morning, a cup of warm brewed coffee is still nice but what about during the middle of the afternoon when it is 90 some degrees outside?
Many people do not want to partake in warm beverages during this time but still crave the flavor and caffeine from coffee.
A great alternative, that many stores offer, is iced coffee. Everyone is getting in on the game from Starbucks to McDonald’s. The down side is that these beverages tend to be expensive compared to a normal cup of java.
You cannot imagine how easy it is to make a glass of iced coffee right at home. Here are the ingredients that you will need:
- Pitcher
- Tall plastic cups
- Dark roasted coffee (though any roast will work)
- Water
- Sweetener (sugar or artificial)
- Milk
- Coffee machine
- Ice
- Large glass (10 – 12 Oz.)
Standard Iced Coffee
The first thing you will need to do is brew a pot of strong coffee using double what you normally would. Two tablespoons of coffee per cup is ideal.
After the coffee has brewed pour it into your pitcher and let it sit for three to five hours. You can speed up this process by putting it in the fridge for two to three hours.
When it is completely cool take your glass and fill it to the top with ice cubes. Fill it with your cooled down coffee being sure that there is still room for the milk and sweetener. Stir it up well and enjoy!
Quick Iced Coffee
If you are in a hurry then this recipe is best for you. You will need the same ingredients that I listed above but instead of using two tablespoons of coffee per cup increase it to three to four per cup.
If you like your iced coffee sweet then make sure you add it while the coffee is still hot. It dissolves much more easily this way! Take a plastic cup (not glass, it might shatter!) and fill it with ice cubes. If you like milk in your beverage then make sure there is room after pouring in the java. Stir it completely to make sure it is thoroughly cooled and enjoy!
Now you can enjoy your iced coffee and save a lot of money in the process! I hope you are enjoying your summer and that this recipe makes it just a little bit better. Be sure to share it with your friends!
