Answer:  You need to talk to your doctor and get help; many people don’t realize how serious a sleep disorder can be. Movement sleep disorders include restless legs syndrome (RLS) and Periodic limb movement Syndrome (PLMS).

Sleep apnea and snoring are two other types of sleep disturbances.

Answer: Insomnia may be caused by migraine headaches or other types of headaches, stimulant usage before bedtime, depression or anxiety, the occurrence of another sleep disorder such as Restless Leg Syndrom (RLS) that keeps you awake or your bed partner awake, a medical condition that causes pain or discomfort, exercising too close to bedtime and certain medications may have the side-effect of keeping you awake.

Circadian disorders may be caused by lifestyle changes like working a different shift, or going through a time zone change while traveling.

Your biological clock being faulty can cause delayed or advanced sleep phase syndrome.

Parasomnias can run in families, be caused by stress, or be the result of a physical illness such as a bladder dysfunction that causes bedwetting that wakes you up, or a mental illness such as unexpressed anger, or a obsessional personality disorder that does not allow you to sleep. Eating sugary foods or drinks too close to bedtime can keep you awake and certain medications can cause nightmares.

Narcolepsy may be caused by a viral infection, a head injury, a disorder of the sleep REM stage, and heredity may also play a role.

Movement disorders may be caused by heredity, medications, pregnancy, stimulants, muscle fatigue but the cause is not certain.
